Dive into the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout 76 as Season 20, "The Ghoul Within," introduces an exciting new feature: players can now transform into Ghouls. This update, launched on March 18, brings a host of ghoul-related enhancements, mechanics, and fresh cosmetics to revamp your C.A.M.P.

Unleash the Ghoul Within

In this thrilling update, you can embark on the "Leap of Faith" questline to undergo Ghoulification. This journey leads you into a new section of the Savage Divide, where you'll meet unique characters who will assist in your transformation. As a Ghoul, you'll unlock exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-specific Perks, or "Gherks."

The Feral ability transforms your hunger and thirst stats into a Feral meter, offering different boosts based on its level. Be cautious, though, as letting it fall to 0% drastically alters gameplay: you'll gain a whopping +150% Melee Damage but suffer significant penalties including -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, and a -300% reduction in Hip-fire and V.A.T.S. Accuracy.

On the other hand, the Glow ability lets you consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and literally making you glow. It also boosts your maximum health, heals damage, and enhances your Gherks.

With 28 perks to choose from and two new legendary perks exclusive to Ghouls, you'll find a rich set of options. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are off-limits to Ghouls, as they don't need those benefits.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Navigating the radiation-filled wasteland becomes easier as a Ghoul, thanks to your new abilities and Gherks. However, be aware that factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile, potentially locking you out of certain questlines.

Fear not, as a new NPC named Jaye can provide disguises to bypass these restrictions and access blocked content. If Ghoul life isn't for you, you can revert to human form via the Character Screen. Remember, this is a one-way trip—once you're human again, you can't redo the Leap of Faith questline. You can, however, purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms if you want to switch back.

Newcomers and veterans alike can accelerate their journey with the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost allows you to dive straight into multiplayer features like Daily Ops and Public Events, as well as some story content.

The Season 20 update also includes numerous bug fixes, balance tweaks, accessibility improvements, combat adjustments, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda has also teased the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, scheduled for April 29, as part of their season calendar.

Since its rocky launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has undergone significant improvements, earning a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being favorable. The game is playable on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
