EA Sports FC 25: Major Gameplay Overhaul Revealed

Electronic Arts' soccer simulators have long been under scrutiny, and not just for their monetization strategies. The technical quality of these games has also faced significant criticism. In response to the backlash against EA Sports FC 25, the developers have taken action with a comprehensive "Gameplay Refresh Update." This update includes over 50 modifications to the game mechanics, aiming to address player concerns and enhance the overall experience. Key changes include:

  • Significant improvements to core gameplay systems such as assists, shots, goalkeeper play, and defense play.
  • Resolution of frequent scenarios where defenders unrealistically caught up with the ball carrier.
  • Enhanced fluidity in attacking play, making it easier to maneuver the ball.
  • Reduction in the frequency of reverse tackles and AI interceptions.
  • Decreased effectiveness of crossing passes to balance gameplay.
  • Faster support from players when they are in their familiar roles.
  • Better offside detection for AI-controlled offensive runs.
  • Minor improvements in the accuracy of normal and aimed shots from outside the penalty area in simple conditions.

Despite these efforts, the initial reception of EA FC 25 has been predominantly negative. Only 36% of the 474 player reviews at launch were positive, highlighting widespread dissatisfaction. The community's frustration stems from a variety of issues, including perceived greed from Electronic Arts, numerous bugs and crashes, and challenges in recognizing PlayStation controllers.

Moreover, the game's anti-cheat system has led to its incompatibility with Steam Deck, further disappointing fans who enjoy gaming on this platform. These factors have collectively fueled the ongoing debate about the state of EA's soccer simulators and the necessity for continued improvements.
