After a stunning reveal trailer, Dune: Awakening is scheduled to launch on May 20th, 2025, for PC via Steam, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions to follow later. Developer Funcom has unveiled the Character Creator and Benchmark Mode, letting players start their Arrakis adventure by designing their character and testing PC compatibility with the game.
The Character Creator allows players to tailor every detail of their appearance, choose their home planet, caste, and mentor or class. These custom characters will transfer to the full game at launch. Early creators will also unlock an exclusive Frameblade knife skin, redeemable at release with a code.
The Benchmark Mode evaluates PC performance, automatically adjusting graphics settings for optimal play. It guides players through a desert base, the vibrant Harko Village—a bustling Harkonnen hub—and culminates in a thrilling encounter with a colossal sandworm.
Priced at $49.99, the game will soon be available for pre-order on Steam. Pre-orders include an exclusive in-game decoration, the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, featuring the beloved desert kangaroo mouse from the series.
Inspired by Frank Herbert’s Dune novels and the cinematic adaptations, Dune: Awakening is an open-world multiplayer survival game set in the same universe. Players begin as prisoners tasked with unraveling the mystery of the Fremen’s disappearance. The immersive storyline follows your character’s rise from obscurity to a key figure in either the Atreides or Harkonnen faction.
The ever-changing desert of Arrakis forms the game’s expansive open world, inviting endless exploration. New locations, challenges, and rewards emerge weekly, encouraging players to compete for first discoveries. On Arrakis, you can construct bases, engage in combat, explore uncharted territories, and connect with other inhabitants. Carve your legacy and rise to prominence!
