Dune: Awakening Will Be an MMO With No Monthly Subscriptions

Dune: Awakening's developer, Funcom, has exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting the release of this highly anticipated MMO based on the iconic 1965 sci-fi novel. The game is set to launch fully on May 20 without any early access or monthly subscription fees, setting it apart from other MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online.

In a recent Steam blog post dated March 21, Funcom detailed the game's business model, system requirements, and plans for post-launch support. Dune: Awakening will be a multiplayer survival game that promises continuous free updates, introducing new content, features, and enhancements to keep the experience fresh and engaging.

Funcom's commitment to long-term support is evident from their track record with other live service games. Anarchy Online, approaching its 25th anniversary, and Conan Exiles, which regularly receives updates, DLCs, and expansions, showcase their dedication to evolving and enriching their games over time.

Pre-Orders Live Now and Game Editions Revealed

Alongside the announcement, Funcom revealed that pre-orders for Dune: Awakening are now open. The game will be available in three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate, each offering unique in-game items. Pre-ordering any edition grants players the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a detailed in-base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern applicable to weapons, vehicles, and armor.

For those opting for the Deluxe or Ultimate editions, a 5-day head start is included, allowing access to the game from May 15. The Deluxe edition further includes a Season Pass with four DLCs, featuring placeables inspired by Arrakis wildlife, including Shai-Hulud, and the menacing Sardaukar Bator Armor, along with a copy of the base game.

The Ultimate edition goes a step further, offering all Deluxe content plus exclusive items such as the Dusk Rider Sandbike Swatch, Blue Dasher Ornithopter Swatch, Caladan Palace Building Set, the 2021 film's Stillsuit, a digital artbook, and a digital soundtrack.
