The developers at Jagex revealed during a livestream on April 16 that the game is now accessible for early access on Steam. This comes as a surprise since the game only became available for wishlisting on Steam on April 1 and showcased its first official gameplay teaser on April 2. Initially introduced to the public in 2022, it was not until late 2024 that Jagex began accepting sign-ups for alpha testing of a "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The game's full reveal as RuneScape: Dragonwilds happened on March 31, 2025.

Estimated Official Release Date in Early 2026

Jagex has set their sights on an early 2026 release for Dragonwilds. The development team expressed their commitment to crafting a comprehensive and engaging experience, stating, "We want to spend the time to get everything right to make sure that our players get a complete, satisfying experience that you’ll want to revisit with friends again and again."

Jesse America, Jagex's Executive Producer, emphasized that Dragonwilds represents a fresh take on the RuneScape universe, tailored for both dedicated fans and newcomers. Early Access Roadmap Revealed

The early access roadmap for RuneScape: Dragonwilds has been unveiled, showcasing the exciting updates players can look forward to. A standout addition is the new region, Fellhollow, a mystical land that exists between the realms of life and death. Governed by the soul-eater dragon Imaru, this region is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Players will explore this area with the iconic RuneScape character Death, uncovering new quests, lore, gear, and music. New skills in magic, ranged, and farming will also be introduced.

Additionally, players can anticipate encounters with new enemy types like Lesser Dragons, along with dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, creative mode, and more. While specific release dates for these updates remain undisclosed, Jagex promises continuous enhancements to the game throughout the early access phase.
