Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Blackroot Location Guide

Quick Navigation

Among the diverse range of herbs found throughout Rivellon in Divinity: Original Sin 2, Blackroot stands out as one of the most crucial. This herb becomes essential when you first undertake the Miester's Ritual during Act 4. Following Miester Siva's direction, you'll need to craft a special Ritual Bowl by combining a regular ritual bowl, a bloody obsidian lancet, and Blackroot. Successfully performing this ritual allows you to reach the Hall of Echoes and acquire the Night Vision skill.

The initial time you perform this ritual, all the necessary components to craft the ritual bowl can conveniently be found within Siva's basement. Each time you obtain a Source point, you become eligible to conduct the ritual again. However, unlike the first attempt, subsequent rituals require you to locate all the ingredients yourself. While obtaining another ritual bowl and an obsidian lancet is generally straightforward—and you might even have them in your inventory already—finding Blackroot can be more difficult. If you've been searching for Blackroot without success, this guide provides assistance.

Discovering Cloisterwood

Cloisterwood is a dense forest located in the northwestern part of Reaper's Coast, just a short distance north of Driftwood. Once you're within the forest, hold down the left ALT key to highlight all interactive objects and collectibles.

You will eventually notice several herbs, including Blackroot, growing near the base of certain trees. Although the ritual only requires one Blackroot, it's wise to gather a few extra for future use. To avoid spoilers, this guide won't detail exactly how many times you'll need to perform the ritual, but note that you can do so each time you earn a Source point.

Cloisterwood Exploration Guide

The dense woodland of Cloisterwood conceals numerous secrets, such as two NPCs who can each help you gain a Source point, an undead trader, and a formidable witch who presents a serious combat challenge.

The two NPCs who assist with Source points are Hannag and Jahan, with the latter also playing a role in advancing Lohse's personal story. Hidden within some ruins is an undead trader named Eithne. Speaking with Eithne and selecting the "Divine Order" dialogue option will grant you a side quest.

At the far northern edge of Cloisterwood, you'll find a pier with a Dead Ferryman who offers transport to Bloodmoon Island. These are just a few of the notable characters you may encounter. The woods hold several other secrets to uncover, including the Wrecker's Cave and the potential to obtain a unique loremaster amulet by communicating with the spirit of a ship captain. If you're visiting Cloisterwood for the first time, it's recommended to thoroughly explore the area and avoid confronting the crucified witch, Alice Alisceon, until you reach at least level 15.
