The Butterfly Collector in Assassin’s Creed Shadows – An Overview

The Butterfly Collector

This intriguing quest begins in Osaka, located in the Izumi Settsu region. In the heart of the city, you’ll encounter a woman speaking cryptically about an origami butterfly-hunting game. As you ride through the city, you may also come across large paper butterflies pinned to tree trunks, often surrounded by fluttering real ones.

Gathering a few of these will lead you to discover disturbing notes. It turns out, the Butterfly Collector isn’t just playing games—they are a clandestine group of women orchestrating the kidnapping of children from wealthy families, aiming to build influence and power through fear and manipulation.

You cannot allow this to continue. There are five key members of this group that must be stopped. Let’s break down how and where to find each one.

How and Where To Find All Butterfly Collector Members in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Shucho

Shucho - Butterfly Collector Member

Shucho's carelessness gives you your first opportunity to infiltrate the group. She has lost the child she kidnapped in the Fishermen’s District, located at the southeastern edge of Osaka. Dressed in green, she can be found anxiously searching at a street intersection.

Eliminate her using either stealth or combat, then locate the child hiding behind some nearby horses and ensure their safety before moving forward.

Mucho

Mucho - Butterfly Collector Member

From Shucho’s location, head northwest over the bridge toward the Kojo ruins. Here, Mucho is posing as a family jochu (maid), attempting to gain access to her next target. You’ll find her struggling with her current victim on the road south of the ruins.

Use the child’s resistance as cover to approach unnoticed. Once she attacks, neutralize her and escort the child back to her mother before proceeding to your next objective.

Richo

Richo - Butterfly Collector Member

Richo masquerades as someone of high status, though her speech betrays her true background. Listen for rumors around the city about a suspicious woman frequenting a bamboo grove—this is where she checks for ransom payments.

Travel to Noda Village in northern Osaka, cross the water, and enter the bamboo grove. Richo, dressed in pink, awaits. Take her down quietly or confront her directly, then rescue the child held captive nearby.

Kacho

Kacho - Butterfly Collector Leader

Defeating the previous three reveals the leader of the Butterfly Collector: Kacho. Known for instilling fear and maintaining cult-like control over her followers, she won’t go down easily.

She is located just north of the Nishinomaru Garden, west of Osaka Castle—a restricted zone. Approach with caution. When you notice butterflies swarming the area, you've reached her hideout.

Speak with her before engaging in a final duel. Rather than reveal her secrets, she chooses death, leaving only one last thread to tie up.

Game Maker

Returning to the original quest-giver—the Game Maker—you now face a moral decision. A former victim herself, she created the butterfly hunt in hopes that someone would expose the truth and prevent others from suffering her fate.

You have the choice to execute her or offer her a second chance. Opting for mercy allows her to begin anew under a different name and identity.

Whichever path you choose, eliminating all members of the Butterfly Collector rewards you with 5,500 XP and completes this dark chapter of *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.
