DCU chief James Gunn has hinted at a major cameo appearance towards the finale of Peacemaker Season 2, though he didn't specify if it's a character from the upcoming Superman film or another figure from the revamped DC Universe.
This summer's Superman film takes place before Peacemaker Season 2, which launches on HBO Max (yes, the name has reverted) on August 21, 2025. Supergirl arrives on June 26, 2026, but a release date for the Lanterns TV series remains unconfirmed. Both are set in the same continuity after the events of Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.
Earlier this month, Max released a fresh trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, showing Superman allies Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner interviewing Peacemaker for team membership—with predictably awkward results.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn stated that Peacemaker Season 2 is “closely linked to Superman and future developments,” with even more connective tissue between projects.
“You saw what we call the QUC, or Quantum Unfolding Chamber, in Peacemaker’s first season, and that technology is further explored in Superman," Gunn explained.
“The QUC is central to Peacemaker Season 2’s storyline. We encounter several characters from Superman—including Isabela, Nathan, and Sean—plus other DCU figures later in the season. There may even be one truly massive surprise cameo near the show’s conclusion.”
Gunn also confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 picks up a couple of years after Season 1’s finale, though the broader DCU timeline remains flexible. "Based on my Marvel experience, I know how tricky it is to align everything perfectly, so we’re talking an unspecified span of a couple of years," he noted.

As recent reveals have shown, multiple characters are slated to appear in Superman, Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl, and Lanterns. With potential overlap, one may wonder: will the DCU feature a chronological timeline similar to the MCU’s Disney+ layout?
That question was posed to Gunn on social media earlier this month, and he replied that the DCU timeline, at least for now, follows the release order of films and shows.
“For the moment, the timeline is basically release order—though some projects include flashbacks—Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, Lanterns, Supergirl,” Gunn clarified.
Disney+ organizes all Marvel films and series chronologically for an easy-to-follow canonical timeline. While Gunn’s answer suggests HBO Max won’t offer a similar feature immediately, such a tool may become useful as the DCU expands.
Other announced DCU projects in development include Clayface, scheduled for September 11, 2026. However, the film The Authority appears to be facing challenges. Gunn has acknowledged that Waller, a Peacemaker spinoff, “has encountered some setbacks.” On the other hand, the HBO Max series Booster Gold “is progressing well,” and Paradise Lost remains “highly important, with active development underway,” according to Gunn.
Regarding cross-project characters, fans are curious how Superman will balance its extensive supporting cast. The newest trailer highlighted numerous faces—from Mister Terrific to The Engineer, plus new additions like The Hammer of Boravia and the enigmatic Ultraman.
