CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will require 64GB of storage on the Nintendo Switch 2. While this is less than the 100-110GB needed on Xbox or PS5, it still occupies a significant 25% of the Switch 2's 256GB internal storage.

Set to launch alongside the Switch 2 on June 5, Cyberpunk 2077 will be available as a 64GB physical game card or a digital download via the Nintendo eShop.

Nintendo recently revealed that some Switch 2 game cards will only include a download key rather than the full game. This does not apply to Cyberpunk 2077.

This raises concerns about how quickly the Switch 2's internal storage could fill up.

The Switch 2's 256GB storage is a major upgrade from the original Switch’s 32GB. However, early indications suggest Switch 2 games will require much more space.

As noted, Cyberpunk 2077 demands 64GB. In contrast, one of the largest games on the original Switch, Tears of the Kingdom, was only 16GB. The Switch 2 version, along with titles like the $80 Mario Kart World, will likely need significantly more storage.

The solution? Expandable storage. Like the PS5 and Xbox, the Switch has always supported it. However, unlike the original Switch, which used standard microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards, the Switch 2 requires microSD Express cards. This means older cards are incompatible, and users must purchase new, more expensive memory cards.

IGN’s deals team has identified the best prices for Switch 2-compatible microSD Express cards, including 128GB ($44.99), 256GB ($59.99), 512GB ($99.99), and 1TB ($199.99) options from SanDisk and Lexar. Some are already listed as "temporarily out of stock" on Amazon due to high demand.

Nintendo is collaborating with SanDisk and Samsung to offer branded cards, though these are likely to cost more than comparable third-party options. Increased demand for microSD Express cards driven by the Switch 2 may attract more manufacturers, but it’s unclear if this will lower prices.
