News of a potential Killer7 sequel has sent ripples of excitement through the gaming community, fueled by comments from Resident Evil mastermind Shinji Mikami. During a recent Grasshopper Direct presentation, Mikami and Killer7 creator Goichi "Suda51" Suda discussed the possibility of both a sequel and a complete edition of the cult classic.
The 2005 GameCube and PlayStation 2 title, Killer7, is renowned for its unique blend of action-adventure, horror, mystery, and Suda51's signature over-the-top style. The game follows Harman Smith, a man capable of manifesting seven distinct personalities, each with unique abilities and weaponry. Despite its cult following, a sequel has remained elusive. Even after a 2018 PC remaster, Suda51 expressed interest in revisiting his original vision, suggesting a "Complete Edition" to incorporate cut content. Mikami, while playfully dismissing this as "lame," acknowledged the potential for a Complete Edition to restore extensive dialogue for the character Coyote.
The prospect of either a sequel or a complete edition has ignited considerable fan anticipation. While concrete details remain scarce, the developers' shared enthusiasm has fueled excitement for the future of Killer7. The ultimate decision, as Suda51 stated, rests on whether "Killer7: Beyond" or the Complete Edition takes precedence.
