Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed one million copies sold, publisher Kepler Interactive announced.
The debut RPG from developer Sandfall Interactive achieved rapid success, having already reached 500,000 sales within its first 24 hours before doubling that figure.
"Three days post-launch. One million copies sold. Thank you for believing in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33," the studio shared across social platforms.
The game reached another impressive milestone over the weekend, achieving a concurrent player peak of 121,422 on Steam according to SteamDB. This significantly outperforms other notable RPGs including Atlus's Metaphor: ReFantazio (October 2024 release), which peaked at 85,961 concurrent players.
While Steam numbers provide partial insights, the full player count is substantially higher considering Clair Obscur's simultaneous launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and inclusion in Xbox Game Pass. These factors indicate exceptional current popularity.
In IGN's 9/10 review, we praised it as "a modern RPG classic." Developed by newcomer Sandfall Interactive, this turn-based adventure draws from genre greats while introducing an original premise: players lead Expeditioners battling The Paintress - a cosmic entity that annually erases people exceeding its inscribed age limit.
