Bravely Default HD Remaster Preorders Live for Switch 2

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on the console's release date, June 5. This enhanced version of the 2012 Nintendo 3DS classic modernizes the JRPG with high-definition visuals, a revamped interface, new fast-forward options, and more. More affordable than expected? It certainly surprised me. The lower price point is partly because the physical edition doesn't include the game on the cartridge. Instead, it's a "game-key card"—more on that below.

While some Nintendo Switch 2 games come on cartridges with the full game data, this one uses a different approach. Game-key cards resemble standard Switch 2 game cards but don't contain the actual game files. To play, insert the card into your console and download the 11GB game from the eShop.

You can still lend or sell the physical card to others. However, the game-key card must be inserted into your Switch 2 whenever you want to play.

What is Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster?

Originally released on the 3DS, Bravely Default stood out as a nostalgic RPG with turn-based combat and a classic narrative about heroes seeking four crystals. Its standout feature is the innovative combat system that allows you to store turns and unleash multiple actions at once. The game also includes an extensive job system for customizing your party's abilities.

All these elements return in the HD remaster, along with several new features. Now you can fast-forward not only through battles but also through cutscenes. Adjustable encounter rates let you control how often you face enemies based on your playstyle. The remaster also adds online modes and fresh minigames.
