Gearbox Software has revealed the release date for Borderlands 4. During a recent State of Play presentation, Gearbox president Randy Pitchford announced the game's launch on September 23, 2025. The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer showcasing exciting gameplay features.
A standout feature in the trailer is the introduction of a grappling hook, adding a new dimension to traversal and combat. However, fans can rest assured that the signature over-the-top weaponry, explosions, and chaotic gameplay remain core elements of the Borderlands experience.
To further build anticipation, Gearbox also promised a dedicated Borderlands 4 State of Play showcase this spring. This special presentation will delve deeper into the gameplay mechanics and, of course, unveil a plethora of new weaponry.
While plot details remain scarce, the lead writer has hinted at a potential shift away from the previous game's reliance on "toilet humor." Whether Borderlands 4 adopts a more mature tone remains to be seen.
Further information on Borderlands 4 will be unveiled during the spring State of Play event. In the meantime, you can find a recap of all the major announcements from today's PlayStation State of Play elsewhere.
