CD Projekt Red, the developers behind The Witcher 4, have issued a critical warning about a circulating scam involving beta test invites. This alert comes amid excitement and discussions about the game, which recently made headlines for its decision to feature Ciri as the main protagonist.
CD Projekt Red, the team behind The Witcher 4, has taken to social media to alert fans about a fraudulent beta test invite scam. On April 16, they posted on The Witcher's official Twitter (X) account, stating, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. If you receive any invites or stumble upon news of one, please report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
They further clarified that any legitimate future beta tests would be announced first on The Witcher's official social media and websites.
The Witcher 4 was unveiled during the Game Awards in December 2024, with a trailer that introduced Ciri as the new protagonist. This shift from the series' long-standing hero, Geralt, sparked significant conversation within the gaming community.
Following the announcement, The Witcher 4's Narrative Director, Phillipp Weber, spoke to VGC about the fan reactions. He acknowledged the attachment players have to Geralt but emphasized the team's commitment to showcasing Ciri's potential. "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things. This decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday; we started making this a very long time ago," Weber explained.
The Witcher 4's Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed gratitude for the community's passion and support. "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games. The best answer for that will be the game itself when it's released," Mitręga stated.
The developers have promised that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious installment in the series, featuring new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has not yet been announced. Stay tuned to our updates for the latest on The Witcher 4!
