Bandai Namco is building anticipation for the next entry in its Tales of Remastered series, and all signs point to Tales of Xillia being the next title to receive the remaster treatment.

The announcement is set to go live during a special livestream on the official Tales of YouTube channel, airing tomorrow at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET. Currently, the stream page features only a cryptic still image that reads: "The Next Tales Of Remastered is...?" However, a premature upload of the video on the Bandai Namco Europe channel briefly revealed the answer—Tales of Xillia—confirming widespread speculation.

This surprise reveal comes just hours before Gamescom Opening Night Live, making it a strategic early highlight of the busy gaming event week.

Originally released in Japan in 2011 and globally in 2013, Tales of Xillia follows the intertwined journeys of Jude Mathis, a young medical student, and Milla Maxwell, a powerful spirit on a mission to protect the world’s vital energy. Together, they uncover a dangerous weapon threatening their world and embark on a globe-spanning adventure to prevent catastrophe. The game earned critical acclaim upon release, including an 8/10 from us, praised for its dynamic combat, engaging dual-perspective narrative, and memorable cast.

As a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Tales of Xillia has remained largely inaccessible to newer audiences. A remaster would not only modernize its visuals and performance but also make it available on current platforms, potentially introducing the game to a whole new generation. The sequel, Tales of Xillia 2, also a PS3 exclusive, may now stand a better chance of seeing a wider release if this remaster performs well.

This latest announcement continues Bandai Namco’s ongoing Tales of Remastered program, which kicked off with Tales of Graces f. A remaster of Tales of Symphonia was released the year prior, reigniting fan interest in the series’ beloved entries. While many fans had hoped for Tales of the Abyss—frequently cited as one of the best in the franchise—producer Yuki Ishikawa previously expressed interest in making it happen.

“If [a Tales of the Abyss remaster] could happen and I could share that joy with the rest of the fans, that’s something I’ll work hard towards,” Ishikawa said. For now, the spotlight shines on Tales of Xillia, while other fan favorites like Tales of Zestiria wait in the wings.
