Bandai Namco has announced the closure of PAC-MAN Mobile, which is ironic as the legendary icon celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. Launched over a decade ago, this version of the game has been a staple for many fans.
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases were discontinued as of April 1st. Players can continue enjoying the game until the final day. Many have voiced their disappointment over the complete shutdown rather than an offline version, which would have allowed continued play and potentially generated revenue for Bandai Namco.
This iteration, formerly known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered more than just the classic arcade experience. In addition to the iconic 8-bit arcade mode, it featured a Story Mode with numerous original mazes to navigate. The Adventure Mode included limited-time themed events where players could unlock exclusive skins. Meanwhile, the Tournament Mode provided weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels. The game also boasted a variety of skins for PAC-MAN, ghosts, and the joystick, adding a personalized touch to the gameplay.
The decision to shut down the game stems from ongoing issues and bugs that have accumulated over the years. Initially, the game saw a surge of excitement on Android, with players competing for high scores and leaderboard positions. Those early days were filled with fun and engagement.
