Creative director Jonathan Dumont has provided fans with an exciting glimpse into the time commitment required for the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows. In an interview with journalist Genki, Dumont revealed that completing the core narrative of the game will take players approximately 30 to 40 hours. For those eager to dive into all the additional content, expect another 30 to 40 hours, culminating in a total playtime of around 80 hours. This detailed insight offers a clear expectation for what players can anticipate in terms of their time investment.
Previously, Dumont had compared Shadows to earlier titles like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. However, given the significant variation in length among these games, such comparisons were of limited use. Recognizing the challenge in quantifying the experience of an open-world game, Dumont clarified that Shadows aligns more closely with the scope of Origins. According to data from How Long To Beat, Origins requires around 30 hours to complete its main campaign, while completionists might spend upwards of 80 hours.

For fans wary of excessively long games, Shadows seems to offer a more balanced yet fulfilling experience. In contrast, Valhalla has faced criticism for its hefty 60-hour main story and an overwhelming 150-hour total when including all content. If Dumont's estimates hold true, Shadows promises a more manageable and rewarding journey.
Mark your calendars—Assassin's Creed Shadows is set to release on March 20th for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
