The GeForce RTX 4090, though a generation older than the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains one of the most potent graphics cards available, outperforming the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. The only GPU that surpasses it is the RTX 5090, which is notoriously difficult to find at a reasonable price due to high demand and markups.

As the RTX 4090 has been discontinued, finding one has become increasingly challenging. Fortunately, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PCs equipped with this powerhouse GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16 starts at $2,999.99, and the Dell Tower Plus is available from $2,849.99. These options are particularly valuable as other major manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have ceased offering RTX 4090 prebuilt systems.

This Alienware Aurora R16 model features an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The processor can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though for gaming-focused users, the default Intel Core Ultra 7 265F with its 20 cores and a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz is more than sufficient. The system is cooled by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler and powered by a robust 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

The Dell Tower Plus offers similar specifications, including an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. For an additional $100, upgrading to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K is recommended as it not only improves performance but also upgrades the cooling system from standard air cooling to advanced air cooling, rated for 125W TDP. This model is also powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

Performance Comparison

The RTX 4090 stands as the most powerful GPU in the RTX 40 series, only outdone by the RTX 5090. It delivers exceptional performance at 4K resolution, maintaining 60+ fps even with max settings and ray tracing enabled, especially when DLSS is utilized. While it struggles with path tracing, this feature is rarely used outside of benchmarks or show-offs. The RTX 5090 may offer superior performance, but for most gamers, the RTX 4090's capabilities are more than adequate.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke

"The RTX 4090 may be large and pricey, but its performance is unmatched. It's the only card of its generation currently available, making comparisons with older models inevitable. However, with its impressive hardware and DLSS 3 AI capabilities, the $1,599 price tag feels justified for the unparalleled frame rates it provides."

Dell also offers the Alienware Aurora R16 with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99. The RTX 5080 is part of the new Blackwell series, but it doesn't significantly outperform the RTX 4080. However, its DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation feature enhances gaming visuals in supported titles, making it a compelling choice for those upgrading from older graphics cards.
