As a practical person, my approach to spending money is quite straightforward. I focus on essentials and occasionally indulge in video games when they're on sale. However, it wasn't until last year that I ventured into buying something as seemingly frivolous as a LEGO set. Despite my childhood love for LEGO, I had grown out of it until the allure of a particular set rekindled my interest.

The high cost of LEGO sets, especially those linked to popular movie or video game franchises, had always deterred me. It took a significant discount for me to finally purchase the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant, which had been on sale since October of last year for under $50. I justified this purchase as a unique addition to my desk, serving as a quirky potted plant.

My interest in this set was piqued after reading IGN's review of the Piranha Plant build. As a long-time fan of the Mario franchise, this set seemed like the perfect way to showcase my enthusiasm. While LEGO's botanical line offers appealing flower sets, none could match the whimsical charm and slight menace of the Piranha Plant.

LEGO sets, particularly those aimed at adults, can be quite expensive, with prices often exceeding $200. It's crucial to find a balance between indulging in a beloved hobby and maintaining financial responsibility. The Mario LEGO set, priced under $50, was within my comfort zone, providing hours of enjoyment and a daily dose of joy on my desk. While that joy might be worth more than $50, it's the maximum I'm willing to spend on a single set.
