In *Avowed*, keeping your weapons and armor upgraded is crucial for survival and success. At the start, you'll primarily encounter Common, or Level I, enemies and gear. But as the game progresses, the challenge scales up to Level II, necessitating the use of Fine gear to keep pace with the rising difficulty. Here's your guide to obtaining Tier II/Fine weapons and armor in *Avowed*.
In *Avowed*, gear effectiveness is measured in two ways: Quality and upgrades. Quality is indicated by a descriptor, color, and Roman numeral. Common, Green gear is marked with a I, while Fine, blue gear is marked with a II. Between these levels, there are three additional upgrades, from +1 to +3.
To elevate your gear from Common (I) to Fine (II), you'll need to visit a Party Camp. Each Party Camp has a workbench where you can upgrade your equipment. You'll need to sequentially upgrade through the +1, +2, and +3 levels, with each requiring specific materials depending on the type of gear. Once you've maxed out at +3, you can then upgrade to Fine (II), which requires Adra—a rare and valuable crystal. Adra can be obtained by completing Quests, purchasing from Merchants, or by breaking down Unique weapons and armor.
While upgrading is one route, acquiring Fine (II) gear directly can save resources. In the Living Lands, you might stumble upon Fine (II) items early in your journey at Dawnshore, albeit rarely. These can drop from Level II enemies, particularly Bounties. However, using Common gear against Level II foes is risky, so stock up on health potions for safety.
Alternatively, you can purchase Fine (II) gear from Merchants in Paradis. Access to Paradis becomes available to the Envoy soon after defeating the Dreamscourge-infested bear boss in Dawnshore during the early stages of the Main Quest. In Paradis, near the Bounty Board, you'll find a pair of sister Merchants. Merlylin specializes in magical Fine items such as grimoires and wands, while her blacksmith sister offers standard Fine weapons and armor at the adjacent stall (as shown in the image above).
That's how you can equip yourself with Fine weapons and armor in *Avowed* to tackle the tougher challenges ahead.
